The Victorian government is rapidly digitalising services and migrating core applications to the cloud. It is critical these services are secure and perform well to ensure citizen trust and satisfaction. The challenge is amplified as the Government seeks to offer joined-up, end-to-end intelligent services across a variety of agencies, jurisdictions, networks and devices.
This comes as the threat environment continues to escalate and as the Government looks to rapidly upgrade the security of its networks, infrastructure and web sites. The efficient and secure management of data across these systems is a major leadership, governance and technological challenge, requiring a strong strategic and operational response.

The Victorian government cyber security strategic response
The recently released Victorian Government information technology strategy commits the state to the development of a strong strategic response to the rise in cyber threat levels. This response includes a State Emergency Response plan for cyber security and a statement of direction. The session will explore this program of work and its implications for agency leaders, as the government moves to strengthen network and to develop consistent standards so data can be better shared between agencies.
SPEAKER: Matthew Smith – A/g Director, Business Systems, Policy and Standards, Department of Premier and Cabinet
Matthew comes from a consulting background and since joining the Government has over the past seven years worked on a variety of whole-of-government technology projects, including the digital government strategy, information management and content management strategies. Matthew is acting Director in the Department of Premier and Cabinet and is responsible for the development of the Government’s cyber security policy.

This session will explore successful change programs for agency leaders looking to reset their agency’s capability, risk management and governance around cyber security. Research by Telstra reveals how successful organisations are building cyber resilience across the enterprise. The session will focus on the elements of the change program needed and what are the principles for leaders looking to carry their agencies into this new era.

Berin has wide experience in corporate and government around information security strategy and architecture, information risk management and operational security. His work has ranged from technical, hands on work, to executive security leadership in large enterprises, across a variety of sectors. He has previously worked with the Department of Defence.

This session will explore how agencies can build security and performance into digital service offerings to ensure trust and availability. With multiple solutions on offer what are best practices and how do agencies systematically develop their cyber capability.
SPEAKER: Nick Rieniets – Akamai, Senior Security Specialist, Akamai, Asia Pacific & Japan
Nick has worked with cloud based security platforms for 15 years. He began with UK-based email security vendor, MessageLabs. Following the acquisition by Symantec in 2008, Nick fulfilled a cloud security specialist role in ANZ for several years. Nick is based in Melbourne and now leads the security specialist team for Akamai across APJ.
