Corrective Services NSW has appointed Sandra Crawford to the role of Assistant Commissioner, Community Corrections in a permanent capacity, after acting as Assistant Commissioner following the retirement of Rosemary Caruana in July 2019.

Sandra has more than 30 years’ experience working across social and criminal justice strategy, policy and operations.  Most recently, she led the Community Corrections Strategic Operations team, where she delivered a number of key reforms and improvement projects.

As Assistant Commissioner, Sandra will lead a group of approximately 1600 staff. Many are on the frontline managing offenders in the community.  “I am passionate about inspiring and working with our committed and talented Community Corrections team,” she says as she acknowledges the positive impact they can have on both offenders and the wider community.

With the NSW Government highlighting reducing reoffending as one of its key priorities, Sandra’s vision for Community Corrections is focused on breaking the cycle of re-offending.

“We are focused on delivering excellence in enhancing community safety through changing offending behaviour” she says while also stating that innovation and continuous improvement will be key aspects of her vision moving forward.”

As a female leader in a traditionally male dominated industry, Sandra’s message to her female colleagues is “Be brave, be authentic, find a good mentor and work hard”.

Sandra is currently recruiting for three Directors to support the implementation of her vision across Community Corrections. If you are interested in joining Sandra’s team, please click the links below to find out more:
