Lakes – natural reservoirs with a slow drain or drainless. Lakes are formed in different origin hollows (depressions).
On the territory of Ukraine were the most numerous floodplain lakes. They were formed as a result of wandering and displacement channels.
Floodplain lakes have a different shape (usually Crescent or elongated) and sizes, they are shallow, rich in fish and waterfowl are good places to stay. Lakes of the Pripyat, the Desna river and other rivers of the Polesie.
Delta lakes formed in river deltas due to the wandering sandy channels among the sediment. Among them – the biggest in Ukraine fresh-water lake Yalpug, and Covurlui, Cahul. The water of these lakes is used to water supply, irrigation, fisheries.
In the black sea lowlands as a result of subsidence and flooding by the sea mouths of rivers, and formed the estuary of the lake. The freshwater estuary of Ukraine – Dniester; there are also Kuyalnik, Khadzhibey, Tiligul, Sasykskoye. Estuaries and lakes of the South of Ukraine – is the reserve of water for household needs, the targets of fishing, base for the development of the Spa industry.
