The Khangar Volcano
In the southern part of the Central range is the volcano Hangar . related to Middle volcanic zone. Not so long ago it was considered an extinct volcano, now he is potentially active, and therefore dangerous. About 400 years ago there was its last eruption. The crater of the volcano, overlooking the Caldera filled with water and forms a beautiful lake with a depth of 150 m and dimensions 2,8×2,1 km from the lake there are three small islets.
The Caldera of the volcano Khangar is covered by forest, the slopes are covered with extrusive outputs of the beautiful volcanic glass (obsidian), which has red coloring with a variety of striped and spotted patterns. Obsidian is widely used as a facing and ornamental material.
The Khangar volcano is considered the most picturesque place of Kamchatka. Its height is 2000 m. the history of the volcano pretty difficult. Today it is a heavily truncated cone, having the crater-the Caldera, and located in a wide intermountain hollow. Almost on all sides of the volcano washed by the waters of the river bell, and only on one side it is adjacent to the watershed crest of the Sredinny range.
The walls of the crater are varied, light color, indicating intense fumarolic activity in the final activity period of the volcano. From the bottom of the volcano after the formation of the crater was raised slightly viscous lava. At the end of the eruptions precipitation began to settle on its endorheic crater, thus forming Alpine lake. The water level in the lake is almost always the same, it is balanced due to filtration of meteoric water through the walls of the crater and by evaporation.
The lake has a very picturesque appearance. If you look from above, before us is a picture of a beautiful blue lake with two small Islands, formed by lava and resembling a huge ancient amphibians. Near the water grows pale yellow residue, passing at the top into the dark sheer cliffs. The top of the crater ridge is very broken: it goes down almost to the lake, then rises up barnaviddane sharp rocks.
It is a crater lake of a volcano Khangar go pretty hard, but possible. Only in the Eastern part of the lake is the coastal trail. With some difficulty you can go along the lake on the Western, southern and partially Northern shore, at the end of which rises a steep rock, on top of which, above the cliff, are several outcrops of lava resembling human figures. The locals call it evens lake Ana Gettigan, that is my Grandmother’s lake. The official name of the lake is Cuigang.
The ridge around the lake has two sharp depressions, the height of which does not exceed 50-75 m above the lake. The most convenient place to go into the crater of the volcano Khangar is considered the Northern lower. Western decrease consists of a bright and fragile breed and has the appearance of a sharp ridge. Its inner slope is very steep, but the external has a height of 50 m and very steep. At the foot of the Western slope of the ridge beat strong key lakes. Perhaps someday water will break through this wall, and the picturesque highland lake in Kamchatka will disappear forever.
On the Western and Northern outskirts of the Khangar volcano in the reindeer moss reindeer often graze in herds of Bystrinsky linesbecause.
The Khangar volcano is located in a remote from settlements areas. From the village Milkovo to it 110 km and from the geological Aga village is 115 km away, and the Path very difficult to pass it can only well-trained tour groups – strong and durable.
