The NSW Government is seeking to appoint a full-time Electoral Commissioner for NSW. The Electoral Commissioner is an independent statutory appointee who is responsible for administering state parliamentary elections and other elections as authorised by law.
The Commissioner occupies a central position in the state’s democratic system. The Electoral Commissioner is a member of the NSW Electoral Commission, the 3-member independent statutory body whose responsibilities include prosecutions for electoral-related offences, ensuring compliance with electoral legislation and promoting public awareness of electoral matters. The NSW Electoral Commission also administers the state’s electoral funding and lobbying legislation.
The Electoral Commissioner also leads the NSW Electoral Commission Staff Agency, a separate public sector agency with approximately 385 staff, which supports the exercise of the Commissioner and NSW Electoral Commission’s statutory functions.
The appointment will be for a term of up to 10 years. Remuneration is determined by the Statutory and Other Offices Remuneration Tribunal and is currently an annual salary of $406,110.
